Saving Our Flying Heritage (SOFH), in conjunction with the Greater Alabama Council of Boy Scouts. is excited to offer a Boy Scouts Aviation Merit Badge program starting July 2023.  Our first course is set for July 22, 2023, and will be held at the Huntsville Executive Airport in Meridianville, AL.  The course will consist of classroom and hands-on aviation training at an active airport and with real aircraft.

The center point of the hands-on training will be a US Army, Vietnam-era Cessna 305D, mostly known as an O1 or L-19 Birddog.

Navigation
Aircraft System
Aviation Careers
Model Building
Aircraft Preflight
Flight Planning
Understanding How Airports Works
Actual Orientation Flight (Junior Membership is SOFH required)

Only 20 spots will be opened for the first class.  Take advantage of this rare opportunity for real hands-on aviation learning, at an active airport with real former military aircraft.  As a membership organization, SOFH is offering the junior associate membership to the scouts who attend the merit badge program.  Associate members may receive an orientation flight in the L-19 Birddog as a way to encourage future support and educate them on the mission of SOFH.

 

To sign up for the upcoming class on July 22, simply click the DONATE button to the right of this page and enter your amount of either $50 (for the full program) or $100 (for full program and junior membership with orientation flight).  Funds are processed via Paypal, but a Paypal account is not required; instructions on simply using a credit card with be shown. SOFH is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization and all funds go to support the SOFH and its mission of aviation education and maintaining/sharing historical military aircraft for future generations to enjoy and learn from.
